Vietnam’s economy has been growing in the last 25 years which lead to a high energy demand increase. Meanwhile, Vietnam is one of the countries most effected by climate change. In order to mitigate those effects, the Vietnamese government implemented the Vietnam Renewable Energy Development Strategy in 2015. The goal is to promote the use of renewable energy in the country. Since the hydropower potential is almost completely utilized, the strategy focuses on solar and wind power as well as bioenergy. To reach their ambitious goals, Vietnam’s government reformed the framework conditions for investments to strengthen the cooperation with foreign companies in the energy sector.

Juwi Asia-Pacific, announced their selection as the EPC contractor for a 80 MWp solar photovoltaic (PV) power project in the south central coastal region of Vietnam, representing the first two phases of a 330-MW clean energy pipeline. Furthermore, BIM has commissioned the Fichtner Group as Owner’s Engineer for the full size of the project.

The solar plant will be located in Ninh Thuan province and is being built by juwi on behalf of investment firms BIM Group, headquartered in Vietnam and AC Energy, Philippines.

The partnership between BIM Group, juwi and Fichtner was initiated by the Project Development Programme (PDP) as part of the German Energy Solutions Initiative of the German Federal Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. The PDP played the key role in connecting BIM Group with potential German partners, including juwi and Fichtner, via various business matchmaking events in Vietnam and Germany. BIM, one of Vietnam’s leading investment groups has, for quality considerations, decided to cooperate with a highly experienced German EPC and an international operating German consulting company to implement their PV project.

“We are glad that the Project Development Programme has been successful in matching the demand of investors from a promising solar market like Viet Nam with the worldwide experienced EPC contractor juwi and the consulting company Fichtner. We believe that not only this is an important business partnership but it also enables technology and knowledge transfer to Vietnams young solar photovoltaic market”, said Simon Bittner, PDP country manager for Vietnam.
