More functionality and energy efficiency required
Initially 324 fanlight openers powered by electric motors were requested for the Ministry of Agriculture in The Hague which is currently being completely modernised and expanded. The responsible persons then found a more perfect solution both visually as well as technically: 108 HAUTAU PRIMAT compact A. Read here how this came to pass: According to the owner in a project statement, the construction measures initiated which should be completed at the end of 2009 should make the property suitable for the usage requirements of the 21st century. A highly-efficient building shell for energy also requires intelligent ventilation concepts. The large, fixed glazed aluminium windows on the ground floor of all buildings should therefore be fitted with outward adjustable fanlights. The general contractor, J.P. van Eesteren, initially commissioned the company making the façade, De Groot & Visser, with the planning for electrically operated fanlight openers. Together with the window construction company, Metaglas, it was decided to use HAUTAU PRIMAT fanlight openers. Initially, 324 separately driven HAUTAU PRIMAT-A were intended in the tender documents; in view of the large sash weight, three stays per fanlight unit were planned. Impressed by the perfect technology, the responsible persons wanted to know more about the complete HAUTAU product range and informed themselves comprehensively using the World Wide Web. Based on the detailed system specifications, the triple-stay version motorised variant of the HAUTAU PRIMAT-EkompaktA was decided on. With its 230 Volts drive, the HAUTAU PRIMAT-EkompaktA represents the ideal solution for large, outward-opening window systems. With the optional one, two or three stay versions, the appropriate solution is available for every building situation and window size. There is also a corresponding 24 Volt variant with the HAUTAU PRIMAT-SkompaktA line. Adjustment widths between 95 and 190 mm and locking forces between 8,000 and 24,000 N meet all requirements for the property. There is also increased contact pressure due to the integrated locking in the stay. A perfect solution for the project both technically and visually. Because a Dutch special feature is the construction of so-called "hard glass windows" where fittings are directly bonded to the glass. In the present case, the fixed, glazed window area has been completed with only a narrow upward profile. The flat, compact case of the PRIMAT-EkompaktA could not only be ideally integrated in the visual appearance of the windows but also easily joined to the laminated glass of the fanlights. With the 250 cm wide stay case, colour matched to the visual appearance of the profile, the complete construction of the 260 mm wide and approx. 45 cm high fanlights is only built up a little. Instead of the foreseen 324 manual stays, only 108 electric fanlight openers are needed. Furthermore, the complete ventilation process can now be directly controlled via the building control centre so that the requirements of the customer concerning innovative ventilation technology have been perfectly implemented. Extensive renovation work and an additional extension building will provide modern usage conditions from 2009.
Knesset in Israel fitted with modern HAUTAU smoke and heat exhaust systems
It is a less spectacular building and represents the typical architecture of the 1960s. Thereby, the Knesset combines constructivist elements throughout with some classical elements. The quadratic building with columns has been erected mainly made of concrete and red Jerusalem stone. Almost everyone in the world knows the name of the building planned by Joseph Klarwein and first completed on 30 August 1966. The term “Knesset” used today is derived from the Hebrew Knesset “Ha-Gdola”, the “Large Meeting”. It was held for the first time as early as the Fifth Century BC and established the still binding number of 120 members of the Israel Parliament. The political heart of Israel beats here; the legislative body of the Israel single chamber system meets here. And it is here that HAUTAU smoke and heat exhaust systems have been safeguarding the main foyer and the lobby of the members of parliament for some months. The requirements have been perfectly implemented by the HAUTAU partner, Peleg Systems After more than 30 years of use, it is not surprising that regular renovation work for the distinctive building occurs. In the course of the last actions, the main foyer and the representatives’ lobby also had to be retrofitted with modern smoke and heat exhaust systems. As Israeli requirements for the smoke and heat extraction correspond to European standards, corresponding technology was requested. Together with Peleg Systems, its sales and service partner for building technology in Israel, HAUTAU succeeded in convincing the customer of the benefits of innovative systems from Helpsen in Lower Saxony. Windows of different dimensions with differing opening widths and directions from each other had to be equipped. In accordance with the requirements profile of the planners, 24 Volt chain drives from the HAUTAU SKA 20-300 and SKA 20-500 lines and SA 60-500 spindle drives with opening width between 300 and 500 mm were used. Their compact, particularly flat design enabled discreet mounting on the frame profile of the windows which were not replaced during the renovation work. Therefore, the retrofitting of the drives in the existing spatial conditions without major construction effort was also an essential requirement of the architects which Peleg Systems was able to realise easily thanks to innovative HAUTAU technology. The connection of the retrofitted smoke and heat extraction drives to the superordinate building control technology was made using a HAUTAU smoke and heat extraction control unit. There were also no major problems for the installers here as HAUTAU smoke and heat extraction control units are modularly designed and can thus be individually adapted to the respective application. A fire push button was also installed in each of the retrofitted rooms so that manual initiation of the new smoke and heat extraction system, independently from the building control unit, can be made at any time. Windows provide quality of living
No matter if new constructions or renovations are concerned: Windows as well as doors create a cozy atmosphere inside your house and offer creative possibilities. Besides esthetic features, windows have to fulfill high quality requirements. Window material and window surfaces should cope with weather and environmental influences . They should be easy to handle, easy to care and ensure longevity. Moreover, security and ecology features play more and more an important role. Therefore, modern window design fulfills a lot of important tasks. A healthy indoor climate ensures more convenience. This, however, can only be achieved by an efficient ventilation i.e. short but intensive airing by opening all windows. The oxygen consumption for humans is 1.8 cubic meter per hour and person. Fresh air requirement being necessary for hygienic reasons is 10 to 25 cubic meters per hour and person to ensure the exhaust of noxious and odorous substances. 4 persons emit around 10 liters of water per day by breathing, using bathroom and doing housework. It also depends on the indoor climate, the outdoor climate and the size of the room. For a sleeping room it is sufficient to exchange 50% of the room volume of air within one hour whilst the requirement for a small kitchen may rise up to 40 times of its room volume. Sophisticated windows help against condensed water The formation of condensed water is caused by the fact that warm air can absorb considerably more humidity than cold air. When warm air coincides with a cooler surface the air cools down. The humidity appears as condensation. This happens in particular when high humidity and low outside temperature coincide. Modern windows may help to keep the warmth inside the house so that energy expenses can be reduced. Windows of the new generation have a low value of heat transfer (U-value) avoiding so-called “heat bridges”. The right airing conditions are an important factor, too. Staircases and house entrances belong to the few unheated spaces. For these spaces a permanent airing does not create a problem. The best possible kind of airing is ensured by a tilt and turn window or a skylight window. The skylight window can be handled conveniently by hand with a lever. For stepless adjustment of the opening range we recommend the use of spindle gearings or alternatively electric drives for highest convenience. By means of the HAUTAU PRIMAT program almost all problems can be solved! The more comfortable solution is the pivot window HAUTAU TORNADO – no annoying clearing of the window sill, no disturbing window sashes extending into the room wasting expensive living space. With the pivot window an adjustable airing is ensured for all room conditions - from the smallest slot airing to intensive room airing. Therefore short and intensive airing of the room is ensured without wasting energy by permanent airing. Stale warm air rises and escapes through the upper window opening. Fresh and cool air flows-in via the lower opening. The ventilation cycle is closed. Rational air exchange by tilt-sliding fittings HKS® The tilt sliding fitting HKS® also allows a rational air exchange at wide-opened windows. The sash is simply slid aside without removing objects from the window sill. The office window is also suitable for the tilt sliding fitting. The available space at working places is often restricted. Especially in this field a maximum supply of fresh air is necessary. This is no problem anymore due to parallel sliding of window. Every two-part or multipart element can become an attractive tilt sliding HKS® element. Result: Airing is important and short and intensive airing is correct. However, the right window fitting is decisive. HAUTAU fitting technology successful at the Olympic Games
High operating convenience in the Olympic Park The 2008 Olympic Games were a complete success for the host, China. The organisation was perfect, the opening ceremony ensured world wide attention and their own medals tally made the German Olympics team more than satisfied. The athletes, officials and attendants were thrilled by the modern apartments in the Olympic Village. The construction of the stadiums for the Olympic Games in China was started in good time. Spectacular structures whose pictures have already been around the world many times were impressive and should further boost the standing of China. The centre of the Olympic Games was the Olympic Park, also called Olympic Green. It represented a successful combination of sports facilities, functional buildings and parks. The Olympic Park consisted of 3 zones: Zone 1 with the functional buildings where the athletes, officials and attendants lived. Zone 2 with the competition and training facilities and the medical facilities. Zone 3 with the culture, leisure and entertainment facilities. Harmony between the construction and the environment was pursued according to the statement of the responsible persons. In doing so, energy efficiency was the motto. 3000 HAUTAU ATRIUM HS® 200 for lasting comfort One of the crucial factors why first class technology in accordance with the highest international standards has been relied on: HAUTAU provides its HAUTAU ATRIUM HS® 200 lift and slide system specially for window constructions with up to 200 kg sash weight. The fast reaction of the company to corresponding enquiries from Beijing, an also fast prototype and the technical quality benefits with respect to the functionality and flexibility were significant factors for the allocation of the order to the fittings specialists from Helpsen, Germany. Approximately 3,000 fittings systems were used for window constructions made of aluminium. The HAUTAU ATRIUM HS® 200 fittings system ensures fast and simple installation due to the accessories matched exactly for fitting to the aluminium system concerned. HAUTAU is the only manufacturer to equip its corrosion-protected bogies with cleaning brushes. A further advantage for the German system because the running track cleans itself automatically in the smog-laden Beijing air with each use and guarantees long-lasting reliable functionality of the rollers. During opening and closing, the innovative lift and slide fitting makes optimum use of the leverage present in the gear and bogie and thus provides the user with maximum ease of use. Thanks to the mature gear mechanics, the sophisticated design handle is small and discreet. Furthermore, the HAUTAU ATRIUM HS® 200 provides a practical night vent function. The standard version of the gearbox is already prepared for holding a profile cylinder so that it can be perfectly integrated into the security concept of the planners. Architects and customers have planned and realised with foresight into the future. The modern technical equipment has met the high requirements. Long-lasting functional reliability of the aluminium windows is provided by HAUTAU ATRIUM HS® 200 lift and slide fittings whose high ease of use enthused not only the guests from all over the world.
