Viking Heat Engines’ goal is to capitalize on the full potential of energy sources. We recognize that tremendous amounts of energy, which is already being produced, is wasted – usually in the form of heat. In order to reduce this wastage we developed a unique, piston driven, low temperature ORC engine – The CraftEngine. Put simply, the CraftEngine converts heat into electricity. Potential sources of heat include generator engine exhausts, thermal conversion of biomass, garbage incineration, etc. The design of the CraftEngine makes it ideal for small to medium scale applications. This enables the production of electricity using energy sources which may previously only have been viable in large/utility scale projects. Viking Heat Engines is based in Norway, with production and testing facilities in Germany; in 2015 a field office was established in Barbados to address the growing demand for alternative energy and energy efficiency throughout the Caribbean and Latin America. While Solar and Wind applications are often ideal for this region we believe that biomass to power solutions or capturing the wasted energy from existing operations should play a vital role in the sustainable energy mix. Energy Efficiency reduces costs by reducing the consumption of carbon based fossil-fuels. Reducing the consumption of these fossil-fuels also leads to a reduced carbon footprint, and in many cases the foreign exchange expenditure of small island states – which can be a significant economic burden.
