Fermacell GmbH produces and distributes high-quality building materials for the dry lining boards market and is the market leader with gypsum fibre boards. The company stands for the dry construction business unit in the Xella group. With a sturdy brand awareness of 97 percent in Germany fermacell is one of the best known construction material brand today, and virtually a synonym for gypsum fibre boards. Fermacell board products and accessories are marketed in many European countries and the rest of the world. The head office of Fermacell GmbH is located in Germany, Duisburg, North-Rhine Westphalia. For more than 40 years Fermacell has been the industrial brand name for quality construction materials for dry construction. Fermacell gypsum fibre boards were first introduced on the German market in 1971. Until 2002 production and distribution of Fermacell gypsum fibre boards were one of the business units of the Fels group. After the take-over by the Xella group the brand Fermacell first belonged to the business unit Xella Dry Lining Systems GmbH. In 2009 the product name was supplemented by the company name: Fermacell GmbH. This uniform product and company name support further international expansion of the company, because the brand Fermacell is also quite well established in other countries. The main business segments of Fermacell GmbH are the Fermacell gypsum fibre range for dry lining and interior work of walls, ceilings and floorings as well as Fermacell Powerpanel for wet rooms and semi-exposed external wall areas. The fire protection boards of Fermacell Aestuver complete the range. The Fermacell gypsum fibre range is suitable for use in new construction as well as renovation. Wall and flooring elements offer professionals as well as do-it-yourselfers economic solutions for all areas of dry interior work. The gypsum fibre boards are made up of gypsum and cellulose paper fibres, which are mixed with water and pressed into stable boards, then dried and cut to size. The ecological product composition is a strong trend today – the boards are biologically tested. To support the various european energy saving initiatives, Fermacell has successfully widened its product portfolio with the launch of two specific insulation sytems. For both the attic /top floor as well as the basement special high performance insulation elements will contribute to a reduction of heat loss. The product range is complemented with a cement-bonded, fibreglass-reinforced building board: Fermacell Powerpanel. Fermacell Powerpanel HD is a special external wall board. Their prominent qualities are the strong and durable weather protection beside the static effectiveness. Fermacell Powerpanel H2O and Powerpanel TE offer solutions for wet rooms and areas of high humidity. While the Powerpanel H2O is used for applications on walls and ceilings, Powerpanel TE and Powerpanel SE are used on the floors. In Germany the product range is manufactured in a factory in Lower Saxony as well as in a factory in Baden-Wuerttemberg. Further production locations are in the Dutch town of Wijchen and in Orejo in northern Spain (situated near the Cantabrian capital of Santander). The organisation in Germany has five sales offices. Across Europe there are nine more sales and marketing offices: in Denmark, France, Great Britain, Austria, Poland, Czech, Italy, the Netherlands as well as Switzerland. In addition, Fermacell has founded a sales organisation in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, at the beginning of 2011.

EnergiePLUS house
Picture: Erich Spahn Detached house Project completed in 2011 A single-family home has been built in Leonberg. The house is geared for the future, since it incorporates solutions for the generation of renewable energy and a healthy home. It has a floor area of 267 m² and is located on a sloping 900 m² plot. The house is also used for research purposes by Braunschweig Technical University. Due to the combination of ultra-modern building technology and construction materials, the family of four is not only independent of mains electricity, but even generates sufficient electricity to run two electric cars. The product chosen for dry lining was fermacell greenline. The concept was designed to relieve the mains supply by generating electricity and thereby minimising the client‘s energy costs for heating, hot water and the entire power supply. The overall design also considered a healthy home and this was a critical factor in determining the choice of building materials. fermacell greenline Gypsum Fibreboards with their special coating and Dry Flooring Elements laminated with wood fibre were used for dry lining. The special fermacell H2O boards were installed in the bathroom.
