POREXTHERM – ADVANCED THERMAL INSULATION Porextherm is one of the world-wide leading suppliers of microporous high performance insulation materials. The fumed silica based products, brand-named VACUPOR® and WDS® are state-of-the-art in their dedicated temperature ranges of -50 °C to 80 °C for VACUPOR® and 500 °C to 1200 °C for WDS®. Create Space – save energy Due to the outstanding insulation properties, customers are able to save enormous amounts of energy or to create significantly more space compared to conventional systems. The products are already successfully used in the range of aerospace / automotive / industry / domestic appliances / temperature controlled packing / building & construction / industrial piping / tank container – logistics / fuel cells and many more. Porextherm – Innovation by tradition Since the company foundation in the year 1989, Porextherm continuously extended its core competence within the field of microporous high performance insulation materials. Today they offer a broad portfolio of innovative products. Porextherm has a state-of-the art, high capacity production facility in Kempten, Germany, in order to be able to supply the strongly growing domestic as well as international markets. Innovative thermal insulation continues to gain importance, not only in view of limited energy resources and rising costs. Especially new technologies with specific insulation requirements increasingly demand tailor-made solutions in the low- as well as high-temperature range. In this respect, demands made on thermal insulation materials include the continual reduction of thermal conductivity as well as reduced layer thicknesses. Handling must be simple and at the same time not pose a health risk. And, not least, thermal insulation materials must be available as standardized preformed elements as well as for individual applications. Porextherm’s research & development and engineering departments offer many solutions that perfectly meet these demanding requirements. In close cooperation with their customers, they design and develop innovative and unique insulation products that are also suitable for integration in serial production processes. VACUPOR® – A CLEAR ADVANTAGE IN THERMAL INSULATION In most cases, when it comes to achieving the most efficient thermal insulation in the tightest spaces, Vacupor® - Vacuum Insulation Panels are the product of choice. Vacupor® is already successfully and efficiently used in a wide variety of applications. Vacupor® is easy to use and, due to the integrated fiber-filaments, which support the three-dimensional fumed-silica structure, becomes pressure resistant and self supporting. Therefore, additional sheathing to improve mechanical stability is usually not required. Of course, Porextherm is able to offer Vacupor®, according to particular insulation requirements, in various shapes, sizes and coverings with different protection layers. They are continually developing further flexible solutions for this outstanding insulation material. Particularly in response to changes in laws and regulations, but also for energy-saving reasons, Vacupor® is gaining acceptance in many industrial applications, such as refrigeration appliances, building insulation, etc., with increasing frequency replacing insulation materials that are less costly, but also less efficient. Vacupor® combines the properties of a microporous insulation material with the advantages of vacuum insulation technology. In this way, an extremely low thermal conductivity of 5 mW/mK is achieved. Vacupor® can be used in the temperature range between -50°C and 120°C. The core material is produced without any emissions, is not flammable and usually does not contain any organic components which may set free harmful decomposition products when exposed to heat. Vacupor® can be recycled and, according to industrial hygiene expertises, does not pose any health hazard. The silicate support filaments used for mechanical reinforcement are also not absorbable by the lungs, as defined by the WHO. This makes Vacupor® an ideal insulation material from every point of view. WDS® – COOL DESIGN SOLUTIONS IN THE HIGH-TEMPERATURE RANGE Start to redefine the term “hot“ in your applications. The high-temperature range – unlimited applications for Porextherm products. With a temperature stability of up to 1200 °C, our comprehensive range of products offers an ideal product for every application, for example, for use as backing insulation in the steel, aluminum and glass industry. This considerably improves the overall energy balance. Porextherm products also allow thermal insulation designs with the lowest possible thicknesses in furnace design, drastically increasing the usable volume and reducing the required energy due to its outstanding thermal retention capacity. In the modern consumer area, many households are already equipped with glass-ceramic cooking ranges. The radiating heating elements positioned immediately below the cooking surface contain Porextherm insulating materials used for its outstanding mechanical and thermal characteristics. In electrical thermal storage heaters, Porextherm products promote the optimal exploitation of the storage effect and, in addition, contribute to the solution of space problems. Therefore today, Porextherm has gained a solid reputation in a wide variety of industrial branches requiring efficient thermal insulation for the improvement of their products. Porextherm also offers innovative insulation systems for the automotive and aviation industry, for example, for the thermal management of exhaust systems and the fire protection insulation in aircraft engines. Another remarkable area of application is the insulation of offshore oil pipelines. THE RIGHT SHAPE CAN BE IMPORTANT IN THERMAL INSULATION Porextherm is not limited to a certain area of application. On the contrary, we have developed a broad range of different application-specific products in order to meet the demands of a wide variety of branches. In these efforts, thermal insulation in products with complex shapes are playing an increasingly important role. Here, our specially shaped components are the ideal solution when it comes to efficient thermal insulation in the tightest spaces and under the most difficult conditions.

Solar Decathlon 2007 - and the winner is... Darmstadt
Washington / Darmstadt, 20/10/2007. The Technical University of Darmstadt has won the international competition "Solar Decathlon 2007" to the most attractive and energy efficient solar house. The team under the leadership of the department of design and energy-efficient construction at the faculty of Architecture, Prof. Manfred Hegger, showed its number one ranking in the final week in front of the White House in Washington DC. The competitors were from 19 top universities all over the world, e.g. from the USA, Canada or Spain. The participation in the Solar Decathlon, and the presentation "solar building-Made in Germany" has been made possible through the support of project partners and sponsors. Porextherms contribution to provide almost 260m² of Vacupor® Vacuum Insulation Panels lead to a successful finish of the Solar Decathlon competition. The Vacupor® VIPs have been applied in walls, ceilings and floors of the of the solar house.
